I think I owe the Alphatcl lists an apology and Jon Guyer a beer or three.
The problem is not OS 9.1, Brit keyboard, or even a `Rowland' thing (<evil
grin> I finally found myself a decent shrink on Wednesday - yep, I really
am an official looney)

It's a PGP 6.5.8 thing - and did I mention I had PGP installed? I did not,
did I? So humble apologies for that ommission.

Just a couple of minutes ago, I unthinkingly hit cmd-opt-e in TeX mode to
do the enter replace string thing, and a PGP box popped up (never seen
*that* actually appear before - just strange flickerings and an
inexplicable selection in my Alpha text editing window). Clearly PGP has
global keybindings to activate various functions, one of them is cmd-opt-e
(I checked this), and that clash screws up Alpha.

For a short term fix, I've deactivated the PGP menu in Alpha (I've not got
a lot of use for it with Alpha, it must be said, so this isn't a problem
for me).

A more useful solution involves changing the PGP keybindings to avoid this
clash - easily done in PGP Tools, Edit->Prefs->Menu which clearly shows
opt-cmd-e as the keybinding for encryption by default. I expect I'll do
that when I've had a think about what I want to do with the things (maybe
deactivate all the PGP keybindings, since I'm unlikely to remember them).

Even so, I would have expected Alpha to at least *know* about its own
keybindings in TeX mode (even if they don't work properly due to this
clash), since they are supposed to be set, and my experience shows that
cmd-opt-e doesn't get bound to enter replace string when switching to TeX
mode with PGP Menu active in Alpha and opt-cmd-e being the PGP keybinding
for encrypt.

Anyone got any thoughts?

Rowland.
