Subject: A few issues...

Hello! This is my first post to this list; I signed up after shifting to
Alpha V7.4.

I've got a few issues which I've noticed:

(1) A number of dialogs appear to be cut off at the bottom of the
screen--many of the preference dialogs, for example (e.g. Config...
Preferences... Appearance...) I'm running 9.0.4, with a resolution of
1024x768, and with a default large system font of either Chicago or
Charcoal. The cut-off is high enough that I don't even see the buttons at
the bottom of the dialog, and I have to use the esc key to cancel it since
I don't have the cancel button. The text is also clipped at the right hand
side, though that's not as severe as at the bottom. (Switching to Techno
squeezes it enough that the right-side clipping is gone.) Also, the check
boxes and the associated text are partly clipped at the top by the
explanatory text that's right above them.

(2) A problem I've had for a long time--if you change the screen to a
higher resolution while Alpha is running, the status bar stays in the
location where it would be for the lower resolution--i.e. in the middle of
the screen. (If you change it to a lower resolution, it relocates
correctly, but if you then shift back to a higher resolution it incorrectly
stays in the lower-resolution location.) In some past versions I've been
able to drag it back to the bottom of the screen, but I can't do that now.

(3) Text selection via the cursor keys works unlike every other Mac
application I've used--when you're holding down shift and moving the
cursor to extend a selection, some cursor movements cause your original
starting point to move rather than shrinking the selection a bit.
(Example: put the cursor after the colon in this sentence, hold shift,
and press up twice and right three times. In a normal application, the
selection will begin with the "t" in "selection" and end with the colon;
in Alpha, the selection will begin with the space after "to" and end with
the "p" in "put". I was trying to look at the preferences to see if there
was some way to change this behavior when I ran into item (1) above.

(4) In a configuration dialog, choosing "Descriptions" brings up a dialog
which will tell you the version number and source of just about
anything--logically, a button by that name should provide some
help/description of what the items in the dialog means. I suspect that
this button needs to be renamed.

(5) Undo needs to be smarter about (a) preserving selection and (b) knowing
exactly what level of command the user issued. If I select a block of text
and choose "paste", it should _not_ require two "undo" operations to get
that text back. (Now it does--one "undo" removes the added text, and a
second "undo" retrieves the deleted text.) And--after the second "undo",
the restored text should be selected but is not.

All these issues have been verified in Alpha 7.4.1, though many of them
have been around for a long long time.
