Alpha users can be divided into three main groups: programmers, typesetters/authors, and web-authors. Programmers make use of Alpha's special capacity for auto-formating lines of code. Typesetters use Alpha to simplify the tedious entry of markup (usually TeX or LaTeX). Web-authors use HTML mode and other related modes to produce and manage web sites.
