AlphaX

AlphaX is the Mac OS X native version of Alpha, developed by the AlphaCabal. It runs on Mac OS X 10.4 or later.

Latest release

The latest official release (AlphaX 8.2) can be downloaded from [http://bdesgraupes.pagesperso-orange.fr/alphabinaries.html]. It requires OS X 10.4 or greater.

AlphaX 8.2 embeds Tcl 8.5.11 and AlphaTcl 8.2 (trunk).

It is very easy to upgrade AlphaX's embedded AlphaTcl library via SVN. See Main.UpdatingAlphaTcl.

Old releases

The second final, public release of AlphaX 8.0 (8.0.2) was released in June 2006. It exists in two different flavours, for Mac OS X versions 10.3.x (Panther), and 10.4.x (Tiger):

(Panther: 14.3 mB ; Tiger: 10.9 mB.)

Unlike previous beta versions of AlphaX, there is no need to download and install the "Tcl" software library separately. Each flavor listed above is upwards compatible, i.e. the Panther version should also work in Tiger.

AlphaX 8.0.2 can be upgraded to 8.1a via CVS or SVN. This is not recommended, though: the 8.2 branch was so successful it soon obsoleted the 8.1 branch, and all AlphaTcl development in now dedicated to the 8.2 branch. The 8.2 branch is not compatible with the 8.0.2 binary. If you want something newer than 8.0.2, it is therefore recommended you download the 8.2b instead, as indicated above. (The only justification for wanting to run an 8.1 version of the old binary is perhaps if you are on an OSX 10.3 machine...)
